NRA FIRST Steps
The NRA developed the FIRST (Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, Safety Training) program as an orientation for
new gun owners. Each FIRST Steps course is an abbreviated period of instruction (3-4 hours) that couples
fundamental shooting skills with specific training for a particular pistol, rifle, or shotgun. The course includes
range time and is generally tought to an individual or small group.
The fee for FIRST Steps is $100 per person. If you do not currently own a firearm we can
provide a firearm/ammunition for use during the course for $25.
Please note: Some ranges charge range fees ($15) that are not included in the cost of the course.
To schedule a course please contact us by email
at training@ or by phone at
(484) 548-0055.
You may pay for the training session in person with a check (payable to JSHolsters, LLC) or

NRA Pistol Courses
We are certified NRA Instructors and hold regular classes for
- Basic Pistol ($100 course fee)
- Home Firearms Safety ($65 course fee)
- Personal Protection Outside the Home ($240 course fee)
Please note: Some ranges charge range fees ($15) that are not included in the cost of the course.
The NRA Basic Pistol course is ten hours, four of which includes range time. The Basic Pistol
course is geared towards those with no previous firearms experience. But, those who have
experience with firearms find the class informative and use the excercises to reinforce safe
gun handling skills. You need not own a gun to participate, we will gladly provide firearms and
ammuntion for the duration of the range time.
The NRA Home Firearms Safety course is four hours and does not include range time. The focus of the
HFS course is to promote safe and responsible gun ownership. This class is of benefit to all who participate
in the period of instruction, but is especially geared towards those who keep firearms at home but may not have
a history of participating in recreational shooting.
The NRA has expanded its personal protection training course offerings in response to the needs of a growing number of citizens who choose to carry a concealed handgun for personal protection.
The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home course covers such topics as:
- Concealed carry techniques
- Presentation of a firearm from concealment
- Defensive shooting skills and strategies
- Safety
- Legal aspects of gun ownership and self-defense
- The aftermath of a defensive shooting
This is a 14 hour course that covers both Basic and Advanced skillsets. You will need to provide a servicable carry gun in a defensive caliber as well as a strong side holster that is servicable as well. We will provide the necessary "purse" holsters for use during the range time.
Hearing and eye protection is required, you will need approxiamately 200-250 rounds of ammunition.
Note: Attendance for all portions of the course is mandatory. We will gladly work with you on a remedial basis should an emergency outside of the course preclude you from attending a portion of the instruction.
